Mara Farm is a working farm on the outskirts of Fouriesburg, close to the Lesotho border and deep in the heart of the Eastern Free State highlands of South Africa.
This beautiful homestead is in the process of being converted into comfortable, homely and affordable accommodation and events venue for groups and individuals. The project will be completed mid-2009, but the first self-catering cottage is now available and the main homestead already equipped to accommodate small groups on request.
The farm is home to M.A.R.S - the Mara Animal Rehabilitation Sanctuary, the aim of which is not only to offer sanctuary and assistance to injured birds, exotic pets and small wildlife, but also to educate the general public on protecting the abundant natural bird and wildlife we are privileged to have in this magnificent area.
Mara overlooks the majestic Maluti Mountains and our view tower is the ideal spot to drink in the beauty of valleys and sandstone precipices over a champagne breakfast, or leisurely sundowner after a day of exploring this fascinating region.
Clarens, en-route to the Golden Gate National Park, is a 30 minute drive as is Bethlehem and Ficksburg, home of the Cherry Festival. The closest border post to Lesotho is just 8km away making Mara the perfect base for visitors to this fascinating mountain kingdom. The Afriski ski resort and Khatse Dam is an easy day trip for those not able to overnight in Lesotho.
We look forward to welcoming you to our special corner of this remarkable country
